Soul singer Sam Cooke was shot dead on 11th Dec 1964 while staying at the Hacienda Hotel, Los Angeles by hotel manager Bertha Franklin after a young woman fled into the hotel lobby, claiming Cooke was attacking her. Cooke was 33 years old.
