July 13th, 1985 - Live Aid

2015 marks the 30th anniversary of Live Aid, a day-long global concert broadcast that raised money for humanitarian efforts in Africa. The line ups at London's Wembley Stadium and Philadelphia's JFK Stadium featured some of the world's biggest pop and rock stars - over 70 acts performed during the 16 hours of music, viewed by 1.9 billion, across 150 nations. Billed as the "global jukebox" and held on 13 July 1985, Live Aid was organised by former Boomtown Rats singer, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure of Ultravox fame to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine.
